The Moxie Awards

 

Built In has been synonymous with the Moxie Awards for many years, but in 2021 the program got a refresh. Instead of highlighting the best of the best in Chicago tech, the awards program now honors women in tech across the nation. 

 

“Moxie” is defined as a combination of courage, determination, energy, and know-how. When it comes to recognizing women in tech, we know that these are the qualities that drive them — and the qualities worth celebrating. This awards program proudly honors the women who are likely to ascend to the pinnacle of their careers in tech — and who are already on their way. 

 

The Moxie Awards embrace nominations of any person who identifies as a woman, whether through gender identity, gender expression or sex. We look forward to your nominations of women you believe exemplify what it means to embody “Moxie” for our 2022 awards program.

Celebrate Women in Tech

The 2023 Moxie Awards Are Now Open.

We are thrilled to announce the return of Built In’s Moxie Awards, which honor rising women in tech for their outsized contributions — skills, leadership and accomplishments — to their places of work, communities and the industry as a whole.

 

The 2023 Moxie Awards celebrate women who are likely to ascend to the pinnacle of their careers in tech — and who are already on their way — rather than honoring C-suite or VP-level leaders. This may include people with titles like director, individual contributor, manager — or any role with room to rise.

 

“Moxie” is defined as a combination of courage, determination, energy and know-how. When it comes to recognizing women in tech, we know that these are the qualities that drive them — and the qualities worth celebrating.

From now until March 31, we encourage you to nominate women in tech who exemplify what it means to embody Moxie. 

HOW TO NOMINATE

The 2023 Moxie Award Program

Know an outstanding woman in tech? Nominate them for the 2023 Moxie Awards. A panel of esteemed, senior women leaders will select 100 winners, who will be announced in late April. 

 

Award Criteria

Women in tech show Moxie when they:

●   Work with outsized dedication, commitment or passion. 

 

●   Exhibit exemplary expertise to drive forward their team and company.

 

●   Uplift or mentor other women to rise them up.

 

●   Overcome challenges with a solutions-first mindset, inspiring others to do the same.

In addition to these values, a Moxie award recipient:

 

Is not a C-suite or a VP-level leader. 

This award program is open to individual contributors, managers and/or directors. Nominations for executives will not be accepted. 

Works in the U.S for a company with more than 25 employees. 

Nominee must work in the United States and for a company with more than 25 employees.

Works in the tech industry full-time. 

Nominee must be a current, full-time employee of a tech company and hold either a traditional tech (engineering, product development, programming, etc.) or tech-adjacent role (marketing, UX design, sales, etc.).

Not a previous Moxie Award winner.

Built In Moxie Award winners hold this honor for the entirety of their career. Every year, our goal is to highlight a new group of women professionals. Therefore, repeat winners are not allowed.

No. The 2023 Moxie Awards is entirely virtual. There will not be an event hosted as part of this year’s awards program.

Yes. We encourage you to nominate as many women in tech who embody what it means to be a Moxie and who meet the criteria outlined above. 

No. You may not nominate yourself for the 2023 Moxie Awards.

Winners are featured in an article on our national platform, BuiltIn.com, which attracts millions of users each month.

2023 Moxie Award recipients will receive digital assets to help them promote their win externally. 

2023 Moxie Award winners will be announced in late April.

2023 Moxie Award winners will be notified via email. Nominators are required to provide the nominee’s email address so Built In may contact them directly should they receive an award.

No. Nominees must work in the U.S. directly to be eligible for the 2023 Moxie Awards.

No. 2023 Moxie Award winners must be employed full-time by a U.S.-based technology company. Nominations for freelancers or contractors will not be accepted.

No. The number of nominations an individual receives will not impact award decisions. 

A panel of senior women in tech will serve as judges and select the 100 winners for the 2023 Moxie Awards. 

Yes. You can nominate women in tech from within or outside of your company.

Tech-adjacent roles support the functionality and operations of a tech company. These can include roles within the following functions:

●   Content

●   Design + UX

●   Finance

●   HR + Recruiting

●   Legal

●   Marketing

●   Operations

●   Project Management

●   Sales

To be eligible for the 2023 Moxie Awards, individuals in tech-adjacent roles must be directly employed by the company; they cannot be a third-party contracted by the company.

No. There is no cost to nominate someone for Built In’s Moxie Awards.
