Meet the 2021 Moxie Award Winners

We are proud to announce the 50 winners of Built In’s 2021 Moxie Awards.

 

These women represent the best of the tech industry and were selected for their outsized contributions to their places of work, their communities, and the tech industry at large.

We received hundreds of nominations for this year’s awards program, and we’d like to recognize the outstanding women who were nominated.

2021 Moxie Awards Nominations Are Now Open.

We are thrilled to announce the return of Built In’s Moxie Awards, which honor rising women in tech for their outsized contributions to their places of work, communities and the industry as a whole. 

 

Rather than honoring C-suite leaders, the 2021 Moxie Awards celebrate women who are likely to ascend to the pinnacle of their careers in tech — and who are already on their way. This may include people with titles like director, individual contributor, manager, VP — or any role with room to rise.


New to this year’s program, the 2021 Moxies honor women in tech across the U.S. — not just in Chicago — through an entirely virtual awards program.


“Moxie” is defined as a combination of courage, determination, energy, and know-how. When it comes to recognizing women in tech, we know that these are the qualities that drive them — and the qualities worth celebrating.

From now until March 31, we encourage you to nominate women in tech who exemplify what it means to embody Moxie.

Women in tech show Moxie when they:

●   Work with outsized dedication, commitment or passion. 

 

●   Shine in their respective fields and aren’t afraid to speak up.

 

●   Uplift or mentor other women to rise them up.

 

●   Overcome challenges with a solutions-first mindset, inspiring others to do the same.

In addition to these values, a 2021 Moxie Award recipient:

 

Is not a member of the C-suite. 

This award program is open to individual contributors, managers, directors and/or VPs. Nominations for executives will not be accepted. 

 

Works in the U.S for a company with more than 25 employees. 

Nominee must work in the United States and for a company with more than 25 employees.

 

Works in the tech industry full-time. 

Nominee must be a current, full-time employee of a tech company and hold either a traditional tech (engineering, product development, programming, etc.) or tech-adjacent role (marketing, UX design, sales, etc.).

About The Moxie Awards

For years, Built In has been synonymous with the Moxie Awards, known to highlight the best of the best in Chicago tech. Running for seven years but paused in 2018, we are excited to announce the return of the Moxie Awards in 2021, now honoring women in tech across the nation.

 

Also new to this year’s awards program, the 2021 Moxie Awards are entirely virtual and feature new nomination criteria to recognize up-and-coming women in tech and tech-adjacent roles. 

 

Built In believes in a tech industry where every individual is recognized as and empowered to be their most authentic self. We embrace Moxie Award nominations for any person who identifies as woman, whether through gender identity, gender expression or sex. Nominate an individual you believe exemplifies what it means to embody Moxie. Representation of women means representation of trans women, cisgender women, and people of marginalized genders.

Award Criteria

Women in tech show Moxie when they:

●   Work with outsized dedication, commitment or passion. 

 

●   Shine in their respective fields and aren’t afraid to speak up.

No. The 2021 Moxie Awards is entirely virtual. There will not be an event hosted as part of this year’s awards program.

However, we are pleased to announce our first ever Women in Tech Webinar, hosted on March 18 at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST. This event is not associated with the 2021 Moxie Awards and attendance is not factored into award nominations. This is a separate event intended to provide rising women in tech with access to today’s leaders for career advice, inspiration and insights. Register Now.

Yes. We encourage you to nominate as many women in tech who embody what it means to be a Moxie and who meet the criteria outlined above. Each nomination must be submitted separately though the nomination form, here.

No. You may not nominate yourself for the 2021 Moxie Awards.

Winners will be featured in an article on our national platform, BuiltIn.com, which attracts more than 1 million users each month.

We are still working on creating an exciting winner’s package for the 2021 Moxie Award recipients. More information will be available soon.

2021 Moxie Award winners will be announced in April.

2021 Moxie Award winners will be notified via email. Nominators are required to provide the nominee’s email address so Built In may contact them directly should they receive an award.

No. Nominees must work in the U.S. directly to be eligible for the 2021 Moxie Awards.

No. 2021 Moxie Award winners must be employed full-time by a U.S.-based technology company. Nominations for freelancers or contractors will not be accepted.

No. The number of nominations an individual receives will not impact award decisions. 

A panel of senior women in tech will serve as judges and select the 50 winners for the 2021 Moxie Awards. Judges to be announced.

Yes. You can nominate women in tech from within or outside of your company.

Tech-adjacent roles support the functionality and operations of a tech company. These can include roles within the following functions:

●   Finance

●   HR + Recruiting

●   Legal

●   Marketing

●   Operations

●   Project Management

●   Sales

 

To be eligible for the 2021 Moxie Awards, individuals in tech-adjacent roles must be directly employed by the company; they cannot be a third-party contracted by the company.
